Stargate : A Big Bone of contention between Elon Musk and Sam Altman
Elon Musk and Sam Altman are currently engaged in a public dispute over the “Stargate” project, a $500 billion initiative announced by President Donald Trump to develop AI infrastructure in the United States. The project involves OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank collaborating to build advanced data centers in Texas.
Musk has expressed skepticism about the project’s financial backing, particularly questioning SoftBank’s ability to contribute the necessary funds. He claimed that SoftBank has secured less than $10 billion, casting doubt on the project’s legitimacy.
In response, Altman refuted Musk’s claims, asserting that the project is already underway and emphasizing its potential benefits for the country. He highlighted that the Stargate initiative aims to enhance national competitiveness and maintain sovereignty over AI technologies.
This conflict is part of a longstanding rivalry between Musk and Altman, which began with a power struggle at OpenAI, a company they co-founded. Musk left OpenAI after disagreements over its direction and has since sued the company, alleging it has strayed from its nonprofit ideals. He has also established a competing AI company, xAI.
